WILDLIFE ATTRACTIONS
Bwindi National Park has a rich diversity. First and fore most, it is a sanctuary for almost half of the world’s population of about 740 of the world’s mountain gorillas. A least 120 species of mammals have been recorded including 20 Elephants in the Southern sector of the forest, Giant forest hog, Bush buck, Bush pig, Bats and Rodents and seven species of primates; Mountain Gorillas, chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black and while colobus monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, blue monkey and olive baboon. Also present are nocturnal primates which include the needle-clawed galago, the potto and the Demidoff’s galago.
The black fronted duiker and the yellow-backed duiker are more common in the park. Among the carnivores present in the Park are the shy golden cat, genets, the side stripped Jackal and clawless otters which live along the streams and rivers. Other small mammals include 39 rodents, 16 bat species and 16 insectivores. Hares have been sighted in open areas. Tree hyraxes are often heard than seen.

About 346 species of birds, 14 species of snakes, 6 chameleons, 14 Lizards and 202 species of butterflies have been recorded. This renders Bwindi Impenetrable forest one of the most important locations for research and scientific conservation programs.
