NDALI LODGE
The Ndali Lodge is 24km south of Fort Portal and lies on the volcanic field that was formed 11,000 years ago in the western Uganda crater lake region. The lodge lies on 1000 acres of private fertile farm land. The lodge sits on a narrow ridge, five hundred feet above sea level facing volcanic landscapes and set against the back ground of the Rwenzori Mountains.
The lodge by owned by the Price/Sturdy families since the 1920s. Major Trevor Price, in the early 1920s, came to Uganda with the aim of growing tea. He was informed that there was an area, south of Fort Portal which was ideal for tea growing. He embarked on the mission of growing tea, north and south of Fort Portal, now the tea growing centre of Uganda. In the long run, he built schools, roads and clinics.

In the early 1950s, he bought Ndali. Having developed a close relationship with the King of Toro, Major Price helped hiding the regalia of the King of Toro after the suppression of the kingdoms by the then President Milton Obote in 1967. At the expulsion of all Europeans and Asians, in the early 1970s, by General Idi Amin Dada, he was exempted and was given permission to stay at his house near Ndali.
In 1991, when President Museveni invited all former property owners to reclaim their assets, Major Price’s son known as Mark Price came up with the idea of building Ndali Lodge in 1994. Unfortunately, Mark Price died in 1998, and since that time the lodge is being run by his sister Caroline and his son Aubrey.
The lodge was built using local materials, designed by Mark Price. He used traditional rough casting and spear grass thatch blending it with the landscape. The lodge has eight cottages providing accommodation for sixteen guests. The cottages offer a magnificent view of the Mountains of the Moon. Each cottage can accommodate a family and is equipped with en-suite facilities and a private veranda.
The lodge has no electricity or generators. However, there is a solar energy facility to enable visitors to charge their cameras. At night visitors use candles and lanterns. The lodge has a sitting room, reception and dining area facing Lake Nyinambuga. The Lake provides water to the lodge pumped up by a hydraulic ram.
Guided nature walks can be arranged from the lodge to take you around the crater rims, banana plantations, coffee terraces, cassava plantations and plots of groundnuts, sorghum and millet.
