LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
Safaris, Tours and attractions
Lake Mburo, at 260sq km, is comparatively one of the smallest parks in East Africa and is the only National Park in Uganda that contains an entire lake. Lake Mburo has an extensive area of wetland and harbors several species of mammals and birds. Its landscape comprises of open and wooded savanna but specifically acacia savanna because the dominant wood plants in the park are acacia trees. The park also comprises of dry hillsides, rocky outcrops, bushy thickets and acacia woodland with rolling grass hills whereas the lake shore has a variety of habitats which include forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps and acacia wooded valleys which all support a wealth of wildlife. The park’s Lake Mburo is the largest lake amongst the five lakes which exist in the park.

In the western part of the park, the savanna is interpassed with forested gorges and rocky ridges. The eastern sector of the park has wooden hills intersected by wide flat bottomed valley which seasonally flood and drain into swamps and lakes. Patches of papyrus swamps can be found on the vergence of various lakes. Although designated as a conservation area since the 1830’s, its wildlife suffered many setbacks due to tsetse fly control programs and competition with livestock. Although community conservation programs have been put in place, the park is still fighting for its survival with the local community who are raring their livestock around the park.
The park has a variety of tracks designated for superb game viewing which include among others Impala track, zebra track, lake side track, kigambira look, Ruroko track and Ruizi track.
