Geography This is the smallest National Park in Uganda, covering an area of 36sq km, and is mostly inhabited by the bafumbira and the batwa. The park covers the northern slopes of the three virunga volcanoes namely, Mt. Muhavura (4,127metres), Mt. Sabinyo (3,645metres) and Mt. Mgahinga (3,474metres). The Park is bordered to the South by the Republic of Rwanda and to the west by the Democratic Republic of Congo. Each of these countries protects it’s own portion of the Virungas. In total, the three parks together form the 434sq km Virunga conservation area.
Garama cave excursion The cave is 342metres in length and 14metres deep and is now inhabited. This is one of the caves where the batwa, who were warriors, once lived and fought their neighbours the Bantus. The guide can show you how the Batwa lived and fought out of the cave. Guided
