Game Drives
Most of the game drives take place on the northern side of the Nile as there are few animals on the southern bank due to dense vegetation. However, the trap between the top of the falls and Rabongo offers wildlife such as jackson hartebeests, water buck, baboon, oribi and in some few cases elephants and lions. It is advisable to go with an armed ranger because they generally know where the wildlife is concentrated and they are also good at spotting animals such as lions and leopards.

Rangers are also more knowledgeable in animal behavior and there is less risk of getting lost or heading into insecure areas. The Nile valley is one of the hottest places in Uganda and animals tend to look for shade and shelter at around eleven. Therefore early mornings are the best time to see and photograph animals.
The best route to see animals is the Buligi circuit which comprises of Buligi, Victoria Nile, Queens Nile and Albert Nile tracks. A normal game drive is recommended for four or five hours, covering a distance between 120km and 180km. Many animals such as lions, leopards, buffaloes and hyenas are more easily seen between dusk and dawn. During the game drive expect to see Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards, hyenas and Jackson’s hartebeests among others.
The beauty of the game drive is enhanced by the park’s spectacular landscape which is punctuated with borassus palms dotting the ridges and valleys in between.
