SPORT FISHING
Murchison Falls is an ideal fishing destination. Nile perch of up to 180kg have been caught below the falls. The fast flowing waters above and below the falls are the best places from which you do sport fishing. There are no hire facilities locally for fishing equipment. Fishing for Nile Perch has always been the main attraction for anglers although the tiger fish and electric cat fish also exist. The tiger fish are reputed to be the most aggressive of all the fresh water fish and can be immediately got below the falls and in Lake Albert. The use of a light spinning rod, a small spoon, light line and a wire trace has been a great success in catching the tiger fish. However, the commonly caught fish below the falls and into the lake is the genus alestes, which weigh about a pound in weight and can be got almost by any bait. Very rarely landed but very often hooked is the soft-shelled turtle. To get this fish, you need a strong strike followed with a run of about 10 seconds and a stiff anchor under the nearest rock. Above the falls, tilapia, nile perch, barbel and cat fish are most commonly caught.
