Chimpanzee Tracking
The Maramagambo forest and its closest forest reserves collectively host one of the largest Chimpanzee populations in East Africa although the Kyambura gorge curved by the Kyambura River on the eastern boundary of Queen Elizabeth has the only group of habituated chimpanzees. The Kyambura gorge is 16km long and 100m deep.
It is characterized by riparian forests surrounded by savanna vegetation. Chimpanzee excursions starts at 8am and 3pm daily and a maximum of eight visitors are allowed to visit per session. En route to the chimpanzee tracking, olive baboons and other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and barbet monkeys can easily be encountered.
For the bird watchers, Kyambura is one of the places in Uganda to see the black bee-eater and blue-bellied kingfisher.
