Game Drives
Queen Elizabeth has very well maintained game drive tracks which enable visitors in viewing the park’s game. The game viewing tracks start from the channel drive tracks opposite the northern shore of the Kazinga channel between Mweya and Katungulu. The most common animals to be seen on the channel game drive are warthogs, bush buck and water bucks. Elephants can often be seen crossing the tracks in the afternoon onwards, to and from the Kazinga channel for water. There is the leopard track which enables visitors to get the opportunity of seeing the leopards. On the Kasenyi plains, there are opportunities to see lions although the giant forest hog is the most commonly seen during day hours especially the dry seasons. So close to the Mweya headquarters, one cannot miss a group of warthogs on their knees busy consuming grass. The Ishasha area is famous for its tree climbing lions and the grasslands there support a large population of Uganda kobs. This is also the only place in the park to see the topi.

The track opposite the main gate at Kabatoro to the baboon cliffs, gives the opportunity for seeing the buffaloes and elephants and plenty of birds. Along this track there are seven crater lakes in this area although only four are accessible to tourists namely, Kikorongo, Katwe, Munyanyange and Nyamunuka. The name Nyamunuka means “animal smell” in the local language and the lake is so named Nyamunuka because of the strong smell of sulphur. Therefore, the game drive gives the opportunity of seeing the salt lakes.
The track to the baboon cliffs, which is 12km from the Kabatoro gate, is very good for scenery viewing. The splendid view of the park and surrounding countryside can be seen and Lake George can be seen in a distance. On a clear day, one can see the Rwenzori snow caps.
